Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. People who have never heard of it often confuse it with a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. The moment I outgrew the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's case it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school who pushed her in the right direction. A teacher suggested that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. After a few auditions, she ended up as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her BA in Fine Arts at York University. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's roles on television and the big screen have varied. The character of Rita in the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the character Rita in the Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filmed over ten years ago.
